Young Canucks forward Arshdeep Bains is having everyone talking, from teammates to coaches, due to his solid play and how he's sacrificed himself for the team. Matt Coronato will be having nightmares about Arshdeep Bains as the Canucks young player was rewarded with one of the loudest cheers of the evening in the Vancouver 5-1 victory against Calgary on Thursday. This was not for a goal or a show-stopping move, but for a dazzling penalty-killing shift. Skating in his NHL debut on the PK, Bains deflected two Coronato shots in succession, then denied a two-on-one by intercepting Coronato's pass to Joel Farabee. The scoring sequence preserved a 1-0 Canucks lead and swung momentum firmly in Vancouver's favor. The Canucks were off and running from there. Thatcher Demko was solid, Quinn Hughes was a wizard, and Elias Pettersson was all the offense threat the fans have been waiting for.
The Canucks Scored a Whopping 4 Goals in the 3rd Period to Put the Flames to Bed
The Canucks scored four in the third period, including Filip Chytil's first of the season, a rebound shot that, oddly enough, was taken after his first shot bounced off the back of teammate Kevin Bahl's head. Chytil wasn't finished. He scored again, two minutes later, doubling his Vancouver career goal total. Bains was even credited with his first NHL point with a nice outlet pass to help set up the score, a clean finish to a statement night for both young forwards. After the game, head coach Adam Foote and Chytil couldn't help but rave about Bains. Adam Foote: He sacrificed himself for the team. He played so well. Filip Chytil: He had a good training camp, he played very well tonight as well that was a nice pass from.

Loading from Twitter ...

If Chytil can become a consistent second-line center and Bains keeps finding the back of the net at the right time, the Canucks' depth might be on par with their high-end skill. Vancouver beat its first true test this season, but Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers is an even tougher one. It's just one victory, but on opening night, the Canucks provided the public with something to hold onto: the glimmer of a team prepared to make some noise during 2025-26.
