In a new interview with Daily Faceoff Edmonton Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson gave an update on Connor McDavid's extension talks. This offseason for the Edmonton Oilers has been filled with speculation surrounding Connor McDavid's future with the team. Most sources around the NHL remain confident McDavid will extend with the Oilers but the lack of a deal so far has some on edge. Tonight, CEO Jeff Jackson of the Oilers spoke to Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff and subdued the worries of fans when it comes to McDavid's future.
Edmonton Oilers CEO Gives A Positive Update On Connor McDavid Extension Talks
Jackson was first asked about the lack of panic in the media and the organization regarding these extension talks being delayed to this point. There's a certain level of comfort with Connor. He's been in Edmonton for 10 years. He's been very vocal about how much he loves the city. He loves playing for this team. The team is a good team, which is paramount to Connor, having an opportunity to win. I think the conversation would be a lot different if we were struggling and we hadn't been and gone as far. When it comes to where that confidence in the organization comes from Jackson believes that the relationship between McDavid and the Oilers is incredibly strong and built on a lot of trust between all parties. My relationship with Connor goes way back. Connor has a lot of confidence in (Oilers GM) Stan (Bowman) and has been public about that. Ownership and Darryl (Katz) and his family have treated Connor and Lauren very well. I think it's a combination of all those things. Of course, Jackson has inside knowledge on McDavid's process when it comes to contract negotiations as he was McDavid's agent before joining the Edmonton Oilers organization. Finally, Jackson was asked how long he envisions negotiations between the two sides will take once Stan Bowman and Connor McDavid finally begin the process. Marek: How quick is that phone call, by the way? How quick is that conversation? Jackson: It'll be unlike any other negotiation because it's not really. I think that when Connor is ready, we'll have the discussion and we'll get a deal done. These comments from Jackson squash any uncertainty or worry that a deal will get done with McDavid as the Oilers seem willing to do whatever it takes to keep him in Edmonton. As this situation continues to play out, we will pass along all of the latest news and updates.
