Jake Walman Suffers Injury Setback, Opening Night Status vs. the Flames Now In Doubt
Today, Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch announced that Jake Walman has reportedly suffered an injury setback ahead of opening night.
The NHL preseason has not been kind to the Edmonton Oilers as they have been dealt several injury issues including one involving Jake Walman.
Walman suffered an injury early into training camp and missed several preseason games as a result but was expected to be in the opening night lineup as of a few days ago.
Walman had been practicing with the Oilers over the last several days ramping himself back up to return in the first regular season game against the Calgary Flames.
However, a new report from Kris Knoblauch has indicated that might not be the case.
Jake Walman Suffers Injury Setback and is In Danger of Missing Game 1
During a recent press conference, Knoblauch spoke about Walman's much anticipated return and confirmed that there is a chance he does not play on Wednesday against the Calgary Flames.
In addition, Knoblauch confirmed that Mattias Janmark is still at least a week away from returning.
This is a huge blow to the Oilers lineup as they try and deal with an already thin defensive unit.
Hopefully, the setback for Walman will only mean missing a game or two and not significantly more time.
Either way, early in the season it is better to be safe and allow Walman to fully heal so this injury will not be a nagging issue for the rest of the year.
If the Oilers or Kris Knoblauch provide additional information on Walman's impending return we will bring you the latest news and reports.
