NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed that Oilers veteran forward Mattias Janmark may have run out of time to prove he belongs on the team, and he could be traded.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli joined 'Oilers Now' hosts Bob Stauffer on a podcast, discussing the state of some of the roster moves that are pending and upcoming for the Edmonton Oilers as they prepare for some major returns.
These include reinstating Mattias Janmark, Alec Regula, and Zach Hyman, which pits GM Stan Bowman against some tough decisions, possibly trading away players like Troy Stecher, Ty Emberson, or Mattias Janmark.
Seravalli predicted that neither waiving Regula nor waiving forward Noah Philp would happen, as he believes that these two players would be picked up by an NHL team if they were waived.
Stauffer shares this view as he believes that there is little, if any, chance of waiving Regula.

Waivers seem to be out of the question, so a trade at this point seems more likely

Elliotte Friedman recently singled out Stecher as a trade candidate, but Seravalli added that Janmark could be more likely due to having a bigger cap hit.
"I'd be curious to see, has Mattias Janmark run his useful life in Edmonton, is he a guy the Oilers would consider moving."

As for them, Emberson is just 25 and has a cap hit of only $1.3 million until 2026, while Janmark is turning 33 this December and is making just under $1.45 million for the same amount of time.
That compares favorably, as all of these other aforementioned players have cap hits below $800,000.
Their strategy may be contingent on retaining low-cost players and creating space for a big trade before the trade deadline of the 2026 season.
Mild trade value may be achieved through Emberson's consistent performances and Janmark's experience, but neither of them would fetch a big trade asset.
So, ultimately, it all comes down to Edmonton's roster puzzle, as they have to delicately balance depth, development, and cap space.
