With NHL prospects tournaments underway hockey is officially back and one prospect has impressed in Edmonton leading fans to call for him to be on the opening night roster. The Edmonton Oilers have multiple spots up for grabs this season after parting ways with several veterans to clear salary cap space for the upcoming season. After <a href='https://www.hockeylatest.com/nhl/trades/edmonton-oilers-trade-evander-kane-to-vancouver-canucks' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>trading away Evander Kane in particular</a> the Oilers are missing some of the physicality and grit that they possessed with Kane in the lineup. During free agency, the Oilers did not bring anyone in to fill this gap in play style but prospect Connor Clattenburg has left his mark already battling for that spot. <h3>Edmonton Oilers Prospect Connor Clattenburg Becomes A Fan Favorite After Battle of Alberta Scrimmage</h3> To kick off the hockey season the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames prospect squads faced off against one another in a scrimmage. Coming into the game, top prospects such as Matt Savoie and Isaac Howard were supposed to be the main attraction for Edmonton. Instead, 2024 5th-round pick Connor Clattenburg stole the show tallying a goal, several hits, and even multiple fights. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/oilersnation/status/1966909748181106841'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> After this breakout performance, Clattenburg spoke to the media and emphasized he wants to be a tone setter every time he takes the ice in Edmonton. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/edmontonoilers/status/1966584156525392198'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> While Clattenburg remains a long shot to make the Oilers roster compared to higher upside players like Matt Savoie and Isaac Howard fans are hoping he pulls it off. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/tseutts16/status/1966926221050343523'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/qauckenbush17/status/1966870601295163669'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/oilfanincowtown/status/1966883400125739309'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> If Clattenburg can carry the momentum of this performance into the preseason and make his presence known there he could go from little known prospect to NHLer sooner than everyone thought.
