Per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Edmonton Oilers, who are the two time Western Conference champions, will make significant changes soon after the Olympics end in late February.
Even though the Edmonton Oilers have twice in a row advanced to the Stanley Cup Final, there could be changes coming to the team by the time the trade deadline comes around on March 6.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, he expects the team to look different when the deadline is all said and done.
I think they will look different, I don't know if it's going to be that fast. There's a log of managers here, and I think there will be a lot of talk. It's funny, I got a text today from someone in the League....he said, "Don't take your eye off the ball, there's business going on here." Obviously there's a movement freeze until the 23rd, but one thing I was reminded of today is that you can still sign extensions, and teams are gonna want to know by the time that freeze is up is if guys are extending with us or are they going elsewhere? I do think this team (Oilers) is going to look different at some point before the trade deadline. - Elliotte Friedman
What kind of changes are in store for the Oilers?
The Oilers Are Rumored To be Making Changes Soon
There have been multiple changes floated for the Oilers, not the least of which was the possibility of former Hall of Fame defenseman Paul Coffey coming back behind the bench to coach the blue line again.
After Coffey's departure during the summer, during which he was reportedly angry about the trade of Evander Kane to the divisional foe Vancouver Canucks, the Oilers are giving up a full additional goal per game on average.
One player the Oilers have long been rumoured to be moving on from is Andrew Mangiapane, who has never truly fit in during his first year in an Oilers sweater.
