Edmonton Oilers may suddenly have leverage in a trade no one thought was possible

Darnell Nurse is now Stan Bowman's trade test after Kris Knoblauch's exit left Edmonton without a head coach.

The post below does more than float a rumor. It reframes Nurse from contract problem to possible asset.
That matters because Nurse carries a $9,250,000 cap hit, the 10th-highest among NHL defenders.
For years, that number drove the fan debate. Now the market read is different: size, playoff mileage, left-shot minutes, and cap space still move teams.
The post says Oilers execs and insiders see positive value, with several teams interested in a seasoned top-pair type.
That is the whole pressure point.

Edmonton's real play is leverage

The Oilers finished 41-30-11 with a +13 goal differential, good enough to stay in the playoff mix but not clean enough to run it back untouched.
Moving Nurse would not just clear money. It would force Bowman to rebuild the blue line around Evan Bouchard and a new bench voice.
This is why the return matters more than the name leaving. If Edmonton gets a real forward, a young defender, or premium draft capital, the room changes fast.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are not in a patient window. Every major move has to help now, not just tidy up the cap sheet.
Nurse still has value because teams pay for hard minutes when free agency gets thin. The contract is heavy, but the player is not a throw-in.
The risk for Edmonton is selling a high-usage defender before the new head coach sets the blue line. The risk of doing nothing is staying stuck with the same flaws.
This is not a dump. It is a leverage play, and Bowman cannot afford to misread the room.

Should Edmonton trade Darnell Nurse if the return includes an impact roster player ?
