The Edmonton Oilers are potentially on the lookout for a goaltending trade, and now they've been linked to an intriguing Maple Leafs netminder. Last season, the Edmonton Oilers ran with the goaltending duo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard, despite their relative struggles seemingly costing them in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers. Unfortunately for the Oilers, that happened again in 2025, but the team appear to be sticking firm with that duo this off-season, despite all of the speculation around the team looking to make a big upgrade in net.
Latest trade proposal sees Edmonton land Joseph Woll
Most of the speculation in Edmonton this off-season has revolved around the likes of Jordan Binnington and Jeremy Swayman, but in their latest piece, Heavy Sports have put together a trade proposal that would see the Oilers land Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll. Maple Leafs receive: G Stuart Skinner, F Max Jones Oilers receive: G Joseph Woll On paper, this is a deal that could benefit both sides, as the Maple Leafs get a consistent backup with Stanley Cup Finals experience behind Anthony Stolarz, all while Edmonton land a young goaltender with much higher upside than Skinner. Unfortunately for Edmonton in this deal, Woll's potential comes with plenty of risk given how injury prone he's been in recent years, and while this isn't a deal that's likely to come to fruition, given the Oilers needs, they may potentially get desperate enough to make this happen in the near future. Ultimately though, this move isn't likely to happen because it doesn't change much for either team, and if the Oilers are going to give up assets to improve their team in net, it's likely that Stan Bowman will want to take a much bigger swing than this.
