Edmonton Oilers linked to goalie from Pacific Division rival as potential waiver target

It's no secret that the goaltending tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard just are not getting the job done right now for the Edmonton Oilers. Both of them have a SV% under the .900 mark and neither one of them are inspiring confidence.

Oilers GM Stan Bowman was expected to make an upgrade to their goaltending, but no such move was made during the summer. There are also reports that the Oilers aren't expected to make some kind of a "panic" move and could even wait until this upcoming summer.

In the meantime, there could be options available to the Oilers on waivers if it were to come to that.

Per Oil In Goal on X, the Oilers could potentially show interest in goaltender Akira Schmid if he were to hit the waiver wire after starter Adin Hill returns to the lineup from his injury.

The Golden Knights have called up Carter Hart from the Henderson Silver Knights, and it may not be long before he makes his Vegas debut, which could eventually make a goalie like Schmid expendable.

So far this year, Schmid is 9-2-4 with a 2.51 GAA and a shutout.

Even though the Oilers have been linked to multiple goalies, new reports have surfaced indicating they may not make a move just for the sake of making a move.

Among the goalies the Oilers have been linked to via trade include Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Jordan Binnington of the St. Louis Blues and Elvis Merzlikins of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
