Don Cherry took to the airwaves to deliver a very important message to Oilers fans regarding the injuries to the team's two superstar players.

With the NHL regular season winding down, the Edmonton Oilers will have to play at least a few games without their two franchise cornerstones.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported on the injuries to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on Saturday.
"The word at this point" is that the Oilers have "no worries that these are long-term ailments that will threaten their playoff availability in any way.»

Don Cherry is urging Oilers fans to not panic

Hockey legend Don Cherry also weighed in on McDavid's injury on his 'Grapevine Podcast', reassuring Oilers fans by essentially validating Friedman's report.
"McDavid and Draisaitl - they take the week off," Cherry said. "No, not (concerned) at all. They're still practicing, doing everything the same."

Cherry downplayed any major problems, stating that the two players are merely taking a short break and would be playing if playoff positions were on the line.
"No, don't panic. If they were fighting for a playoff spot, they'd probably be playing."

McDavid injured his lower extremity during Thursday's overtime loss to the Jets after he collided with Josh Morrissey.
Draisaitl, meanwhile, was absent from that game due to an undisclosed injury he suffered two nights earlier in a one-sided 7-1 victory over the Utah Hockey Club.
Although Cherry feels both are capable of playing if absolutely needed, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch indicated Friday they are likely "up to a week" away from returning and again stated that the team won't take any chances with their return.
"Even if it was Game 5 or 6 (of a playoff series), we wouldn't want to put somebody in a position where they're going to make themselves worse who had a nagging injury," Knoblauch said.
The Oilers (41-24-5) begin play on Wednesday against the Dallas Stars before hitting the road to play the Kraken in Seattle on Thursday.
