Today a new report from a pair of insiders has confirmed that the Edmonton Oilers are expected to make a big move for a goaltender this summer. This season the Edmonton Oilers have been surrounded by a potential goaltending controversy between Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard. Skinner the presumptive starter heading into the season has not played up to his potential and in particular, has struggled with consistency. Pickard on the other hand is having a career year and playing quite well but also has his moments where his play dips. Pickard is also already 32 years old and likely cannot be trusted as a long-term solution in the net for the Oilers. Combine these factors and the Edmonton Oilers' need for a goaltender becomes crystal clear heading into next season and now according to Frank Seravalli and Bob Stauffer, this is a need the team is guaranteed to address.
Oilers Insider Guarantees The Team Will Make A Move For A Goalie This Summer
In a new interview, Seravalli and Stauffer discussed the Edmonton Oilers' pursuit of a Stanley Cup and what the team's biggest priorities could be heading into the upcoming offseason. Seravalli begins the conversation by confirming the Edmonton Oilers are hesitant to put all of their faith in Skinner due to his lack of consistently strong play. Seravalli says that Stuart Skinner's inconsistency «drives everyone mad,» and it keeps him out of the top-tier goalie group Stauffer then agrees with Seravalli and goes on to make the guarantee that the Oilers will sign a goalie this summer to at least compete with Skinner and Pickard for a role in Edmonton. I do expect Edmonton to engage in signing an organizational number three goalie that's played in the National Hockey League in the last couple of years. I could see that. I think that market will be there for Edmonton. I'm saying they're gonna. I know for a fact they're gonna do that. How about a guy that would compete with Pickard for the 1B job While this doesn't seem to indicate a blockbuster move for the Oilers on the goaltender market it does signify that Stan Bowman and the front office know they have a problem in the net that needs to be solved. For now, the Oilers will continue to put their faith in Skinner and Pickard as the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue to rapidly approach.
