Today Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko spoke to the media and revealed what caused his latest injury and why it could still be a concern going forward. Yesterday the Canucks confirmed that Demko was on the verge of returning to the lineup after rejoining the team at practice. Demko has been out of the Canucks lineup since January 2nd with a lower-body injury that to this point not much was known.

Loading from Twitter ...

At the time of the injury, it was revealed that Demko had not re-aggravated the knee injury he suffered last season and was not expected to be out as long as he has. Now that Demko is returning he spoke to the media and revealed what his ailment is and what caused him to be out for so long.
Thatcher Demko Reveals What Caused His Recent Frustrating Injury
In a recent press conference Demko was asked to speak about the injury he suffered and his recovery process. Demko when speaking about the injury went against previous reports and confirmed that the injury was related to a lack of summer workouts due to rehabbing his knee injury. He reveals that the lack of preparation heading into the season began to bother him as the 4 Nations Face-Off break approached. Obviously, it's been a tough year. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. You know, I think I was turning a good corner there right before the Four Nations break. (But) I started to kind of feel the effects of not really having a summer. Just the nature of my knee rehab, it wasn't this kind of gradual solution that we found. Demko continued and admitted that he likely came back to action too soon at the start of the year without any ramp up instead going right from rehab to playing games with the Canucks. It was more: do something to it one day, and then the next day I was ready to try and play. So it wasn't like I had this build-up of getting those reps and getting that strength back that you accumulate in the summer. Once again Demko will likely be thrown right back into action as it seems Kevin Lankinen could be dealing with ailments of his own over the last few games as well. Hopefully this time Demko has been given proper time to get himself in shape and ready for the workload he might now have to face with Lankinen needing a rest.
