Sharks GM's monster statement: Kent Hughes has much to celebrate

BY MARCO    JUNE 27, 2023  (8:53)
The draft is only two days away, and general managers are negotiating relentlessly to find ways to improve their teams.

This is the case for Kent Hughes, who is open to moving up a few ranks, but also to moving down. It all depends on the offers and the pace of the draft in the first two or three selections.

While rumours of talks between Mike Grier of the Sharks and Kent Hughes of the Canadiens have been fading for the past week, a major statement from Grier has just surfaced.

"San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier said he's officially ready to move back in the first round of the NHL draft on Wednesday, but he doesn't want to drop that far either."

We know the Habs see Will Smith in their sights, while the Sharks are very interested in Matvei Michkov, Ryan Leonard and David Reinbacher.

There are more and more rumors that Erik Karlsson will be traded, and with Brent Burns gone, the selection of Reinbacher would come into its own for them.

To be continued, but Kent Hughes certainly has a dance partner if he wants to improve his team.
