Kent Hughes has made two excellent acquisitions

Kent Hughes was fairly quiet in his acquisitions for the Canadiens this summer. Aside from Alex Newhook, he didn't acquire any talented players. Instead, he bolstered the Laval Rocket and freed up payroll.

It was more in terms of personnel that the acquisitions were significant. As Renaud Lavoie points out, the arrival of Jim Ransey and Maxime Gauthier will go a long way to reducing the number of long-term injuries to the Canadiens, who have been very much mortgaged over the past two seasons.

"Maxime Gauthier and Jim Ramsey are important acquisitions this summer." - Renaud Lavoie

Indeed, during his time in New York, Ramsey helped the Rangers be the team with the fewest injuries in the entire league in the last 10 years. That's pretty impressive.

As for Gauthier, he uses a dry needling technique that reduces injuries.

With the way the Canadiens started the 2022-23 season, there's every reason to be optimistic this year. Injuries took their toll on Martin St-Louis' men, and that's when the slide down the standings began, towards the end of November. Imagine if it hadn't been for all those injuries...
