Tonight, Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman provided a statement on Dylan Larkin's future with the team after he submitted a trade request.
The Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup Playoff drought hit an NHL worst 10 years.
To make matters worse the Red Wings were one of the best teams in the league for the front half of the season before falling apart after the Olympic break.
After the heartbreaking miss, reports began to surface that Dylan Larkin would like to be traded and now Steve Yzerman has addressed and confirmed those reports.
Steve Yzerman issued a statement regarding Dylan Larkin's trade request
In a new interview, Yzerman directly addressed Larkin's future reminding everyone that he is on a long-term deal.
As a result, Yzerman is unwilling to trade Larkin unless he gets the exact return he is looking for which means Larkin's request could be ultimately denied.
Dylan has five years remaining on his contract. My job as the manager of the Detroit Red Wings is always to do what is in the best interest of the Detroit Red Wings and I will act accordingly to that. I cannot make any guarantees or did not make any guarantees that that request could or would be me
Larkin, 29, has been incredibly consistent during his time with the Red Wings both on the ice and in the locker room as a leader of the club.
Coming off of a gold medal win at the Olympics Larkin's value is likely at an all-time high meaning a trade for fair value could take a while to find.
Now, all of the pressure is on Yzerman to resolve this situation by either finding a suitable trade package for Larkin or by patching up that relationship and having Larkin return next season.
As this situation continues to play out, we will pass along all of the latest details on Larkin's future in Detroit and beyond.
