NHL insider David Pagnotta has listed the Winnipeg Jets as one of the frontrunners to land a star defenseman, Mario Ferraro of the Sharks in a blockbuster trade.

The San Jose Sharks hope to creep toward playoff relevance, but a leap from 32nd to the top 16 in a single year is still not likely. Though improvement is anticipated, further roster tweaks are on the way, including possible subtractions.
One such name is Mario Ferraro. The 26-year-old defenseman, who has been the Sharks' best blueliner for quite some time, is heading into the last season of a team-friendly deal.

Ferraro hasn't asked for a trade but the Sharks are listening to offers

While he hasn't asked for a trade, Mario Ferraro is amenable to a fresh start, and San Jose is open to hearing pitches, per 'The Fourth Period'. His performance on the ice and on the cap sheet makes him a valuable trade asset.
Teams that were in on Ferraro at the trade deadline might circle back this summer. NHL insider David Pagnotta connects the Winnipeg Jets as a serious contender.
With a number of defensemen on expiring contracts and the team in win-now mode, Ferraro would help solidify their blue line in front of star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, at an affordable price.
Ferraro finished last season with 17 points in 78 games, but he was on the ice for more than 21 minutes per night, and on a better defensive team like the Jets, and with a salary of $3.25 million per year, it could definitely be the right fit.

Should the Jets fall short, Pagnotta also mentions the Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Colorado Avalanche as possible destinations.
