Don Cherry Gives a Nod of Approval to Morgan Rielly For Response to Greig Goal
There has been a flurry of debate over what the NHL's 'code' is and whether or not Morgan Rielly went too far in his response to Ridley Greig's slapshot empty net goal. The crosscheck caught Greikg in the head and has since sparked a debate on how big of a punishment should be coming Rielly's way.
Now, Don Cherry, widely known for his affinity with the NHL's unwritten player 'code', has chimed in with his opinion on Rielly's response.
"I'm glad Rielly was on and I'm glad he did it," admitted Cherry. "I know there's no rule in the book that says 'Don't do that' but you just don't do that."
"It was a spur of the moment thing that did," said Cherry. "I think he meant to get him on the shoulder but he got him on the back of the neck."

Rielly Facing Potentially Massive Suspension For Crosscheck Against Greig
Leaf fans are upset about the backlash to the response by Rielly, as he was assessed a game misconduct during the game and will assuredly face supplemental punishment. He was offered an in-person hearing, meaning that the suspension could be longer than 5 games.
We will see what the result of the hearing is as the NHL Department of Player Safety is expected to make a decision soon.
