Following Alexander Ovechkin's record-breaking goal, the Canucks immediately put his jerseys up for an auction style sale, truly angering many of their fans.

Alex Ovechkin has now eternally cemented his place as the most prolific goal-scorer in NHL history.
39-year-old Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored his 895th career goal Sunday, passing Wayne Gretzky's record that stood for so long.
The record-breaking goal came in New York against the Islanders and had Gretzky in attendance. While not on home ice, the milestone in D.C. is historic.
Not everyone can be so classy at the moment. The Vancouver Canucks, who had no connection to Ovechkin whatsoever, came under fire when they put signed Ovechkin jerseys up for sale.

Canucks fans are fuming at the organization online over this supposed cash grab

The action was greeted with social media scorn, with commentators labeling it a tone-deaf cash grab and asking why a non-affiliated team to the Capitals would be profiting from the record-breaker.
The saga stirred controversy among fans about potential double standards on merchandising rights and honor for team histories within the league.
Drama aside, Ovechkin is the NHL's all-time leading scorer. It's a moment of pure legend for Capitals fans and the hockey world at large.
In honor of the historic celebration, commemorative "895" apparel, such as T-shirts, caps, and pucks, are available for sale to Capitals fans and hockey fans alike.
The festivities will culminate with Thursday's home game when the team is hosting an in-arena celebration to honor Ovechkin.
