The NHL's officiating has come under scrutiny seemingly every week this season, and after another poor weekend of calls, an unlikely name has called them out on it. <h2>A top insider calls out the NHL</h2> During the Toronto Maple Leafs game over the weekend, a Tyler Bertuzzi disallowed goal stirred up plenty of controversy, especially in the Canadian media with both Kelly Hrudey and Kevin Bieksa both calling the league out on Hockey Night in Canada. Now, renowned NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has joined in on the criticism, with that controversial call being the main target; <q>Watching it with one eye I kind of of was like 'Eh maybe Nylander didn't get out of the way' but then when I really looked at it I was like No, no, no, no that's a goal,' admitted Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast.</q> There's likely no way to fix such an issue during the season, as it would take too much of an overhaul from the NHL's referee's and video review team, but Friedman made one suggestion to perhaps improve upon things. <q>I actually do think that they should prepare a video and put it out there, said Friedman. Because from now on, for the rest of this year, that video is going to be used at something that didn't count. I absolutely think they should put out a video and say 'This is why we didn't count this goal.'</q> Ultimately, it's very unlikely that the NHL will look to change anything this season, as Commissioner Gary Bettman and other officials have been incredibly silent during all of the officiating controversies that have plagued the league for years. That's unfortunate for fans who tune in and dedicate their time to watching their teams, as at any moment the poor video reviews from the officials could completely ruin a game, and if someone like Friedman has publicly called them out, something needs to change.
