The NHL is Getting Criticized for Ejecting Toronto's Bobby McMann When a Worse Hit Goes Unpunished

Just one day after the hit by Nick Cousins of the Florida Panthers goes unpunished, the NHL is receiving some criticism for how Bobby McMann's hit was handled.

Social Media is blasting the call to eject McMann from last night's game against the Anaheim Ducks after a hit on Pavel Mintyukov. The hit was close to the boards but not as bad as the hit Cousins delivered the previous day.

Here is the hit that was called a boarding penalty and ruled a five minor major with game misconduct.

Juuso Valimaki of the Arizona Coyotes received a hit from Cousins that appears to be much, much worse. Cousins received no penalty, but Jason Zucker of the Coyotes was suspended for three games for his retaliation on the hit.

Here is the sequence of plays to see for yourself.

There were many reactions to the call against McMann, and most of them were negative.

"Bobby McMann gets a five-minute major for a shoulder to shoulder hit, that just happened to result in an awkward fall into the boards. Also: Mintyukov is still on the bench IIHF referees have made their way to Anaheim."

We are still waiting to see if McMann is going to get any further disciplinary actions taken against him. But because of the game misconduct the NHL's Department of Player Safety does have to review the play.
