Veteran Milan Lucic once again hit the free agency market this offseason, and despite interest from several teams, he chose to return to his roots with the Boston Bruins.

Original Six Interest

In a recent interview with Spittin Chiclets, the veteran forward with 1,173 career games under his belt revealed that both Toronto and Chicago were chasing him for a bottom six role.
Yeah. I talked to Tre a little bit, obviously because I had Tre in Calgary there. So, he expressed some interest, and I was like, 'Yeah, it would be tough for me to be a Leafer,'" Lucic said. "Just because of the Boston connection."

When talking about Chicago's interest, he added, "Not only that, but you get to wear one of the nicest, if not the nicest, jerseys in the league. Cool city. Awesome city. For me, I think I have the most family out of anywhere in Chicago. I would've been playing in front of family on a night-to-night basis.

Why return home?

Understandably, Lucic chose to return to Boston, where he won his lone Stanley Cup title back in 2011, and with so much connection to the city, it makes sense to stay away from one of the teams biggest rivals.
As for Chicago, it makes sense that the 35-year old didn't want to join a rebuilding squad, even with family and the excitement of Connor Bedard coming to town, and now he returns to Boston to chase another ring with the team he started with back in 2007.
