Insider Reports New Development on Trevor Zegras' Contract

Published August 13, 2023 at 11:01

Trevor Zegras is undoubtedly one of the sharpest young players out there. Not only is he extremely talented, but he also has the right attitude to succeed in this business. However, he's still not under contract for the next season, and the Anaheim Ducks are going to want to get this done quickly to avoid any potential issues with offer sheets.

Frank Seravalli provided an update on the situation.

Short-Term Bridge Deal for Zegras?

According to a report by Puck Empire, the likely outcome at this point seems to be a short- to mid-term bridge deal between the Ducks and Zegras.

"The more likely outcome at this point is that the Ducks and star forward Trevor Zegras will agree on a short- to mid-term bridge deal.

Zegras's market value for a long-term deal is estimated at around $8M AAV. If this figure doesn't work for either side, a short-term agreement would probably be around $5M AAV." - Frank Seravalli

The bridge deal, while beneficial in the short term, does come with its risks for the Ducks. Trevor Zegras is expected to further improve his game in the seasons to come. Should he excel, the cost could be well over $8M, making this decision a potential gamble.

What About the Long Haul?

Zegras's unique blend of skills and personality makes him a valuable asset that any team would love to secure for the long term. His remarkable talent is evident, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him lead the Ducks to a Stanley Cup win and rack up other individual honors.

Last season, Zegras made quite a mark at just 21 years old, scoring 65 points in 81 games. His show-stopping moves have already become famous, including the "Zegras Pass" and a few Michigans.
