Canadian Team Narrowly Misses Drafting Connor Bedard

The 2023 NHL Draft Lottery took place on Monday night, revealing which team would have the opportunity to draft generational player Connor Bedard.

In a twist of fate, the Vancouver Canucks were just one ball away from securing the chance to draft Bedard, ultimately ending up with the 11th overall pick.

The draft lottery process takes place behind closed doors. A machine is filled with 14 balls, each numbered from 1 to 14, and 4 balls are picked, resulting in 1001 possible combinations regardless of the sequence. For context, the Canucks had a 3% chance of winning, with 30 winning combinations. In contrast, the Ducks had an 18.5% chance, boasting 185 combinations.

The Hawks emerged as the lucky winners, securing the 4, 5, 9, 13 combination. The Canucks, on the other hand, held the 4, 5, 9, 12 combo, narrowly missing out on the generational talent.

Despite not winning the chance to draft Bedard, the Canucks will still be able to acquire a talented player with their 11th overall pick. Canucks fans can only imagine the excitement of having Connor Bedard on their team.
