CH monster deal: Insider is ready to give away the Canadiens' top star for the first overall pick

The RDS journalist mentioned that he would be willing to include the club's current star and fan favorite, Cole Caufield, in a trade for the first overall pick to get his hands on Connor Bedard.

I have to say that even I, who is a huge Cole Caufield fan and wants the Habs to draft Connor Bedard, am really confused by this proposal.

In an ideal world, the Tricolore gets the first pick via the lottery and doesn't have to part with Cole Caufield to get it. But in the scenario where the club doesn't win the lottery and ends up with the 6th or 7th pick in the draft, I have a hard time knowing what would be the best case scenario for the CH.

Obviously, it would take a lot more than Caufield to snatch the first overall pick from the team that has it. It might even take the 6th or 7th overall pick in the draft.

I'm not sure if the Habs are better off with Cole Caufield and the 6th or 7th overall pick, or with Connor Bedard, while losing the number 22, as well as the top 10 pick.

It must be said that Bedard has mad talent. He is destined to become a generational player like Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin or Connor McDavid.

Caufield, on the other hand, is a born scorer, a sniper like few others in the NHL today. Can he win a Maurice Richard Trophy in his career? Surely!

Moreover, it is very possible that the selection that the Habs would make with his choice could also become a player who will accumulate seasons of one point per game, the talent in the top-10 of this draft is undeniable.

Even after writing all these lines, I am still undecided on such a transaction. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this trade proposal and what you'd prefer the CH to do in this situation:
