Samberg was likely going to start the season in the Jets' second defensive pairing, but instead will now miss the first two months of the 2025-26 campaign.
Dylan Samberg is Fresh Off Signing a New Three-Year Contract With Winnipeg
The six-foot-four native of Minnesota agreed to a three-year contract extension with an average annual value of $5.75 million with the Jets over the past summer. Samberg enjoyed a fantastic campaign last season in Winnipeg, scoring a career-high six goals and 20 points while logging just over 21 minutes of ice time a night, which was nearly six minutes more than the previous best of his career. The 26-year-old defenseman added another three assists during the 2024-25 postseason while averaging over 24 minutes of ice time per night. Samberg was selected in the second round, 43rd overall, in the 2017 draft by the Jets. With the Minnesota native on the shelf, it will open up a roster spot for youngsters of the likes of Logan Stanley or Ville Heinola, while Colin Miller could see the biggest uptick in ice time of his career.
