The Jets recently came off a colossal win against the league-leading Capitals, and Scott Arniel made a bold statement, saying he hopes to have a rematch with them.

Scott Arniel barely had time to catch his breath from what he called a "heavyweight battle" before he allowed himself to fantasize.
If the Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals ever meet up again this season, it will be at the Stanley Cup Final Game 1. That's how high they need to reach to make this year one to remember. They did at least clinch a playoff spot with their win.
"I'm hoping that we have a rematch," Arniel said on Tuesday night. "It'd be really nice."

The Jets can shatter franchise records this season

Winnipeg is approaching thresholds, as eight additional points would equal last year's 110, and a dozen more would tie the franchise record of 114 from 2017-18. Those are statistics. Going to the Cup Final would leave a lasting impression.
Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win was a test of toughness for the Jets. They surrendered a late-coming tying goal but got it done. It was a playoff-type game, the sort that acquires the battle scars one needs for June.
"That's the callouses that we talked about getting, the scars that you get over the course of the season," is how Arniel put it. "So that when you run into the playoffs you've been through this a few times. To go against a heavyweight team like that and come out with the two points, that's real good growth for us, real good things that we're trying to build towards Game 83, on."
With 10 games left to play, they have more chances to toughen up. Some games will try them, some will allow for rest. But winning a game like this against a Cup favorite? That's a statement.
Alex Ovechkin's tying goal with seconds to go left a mark on Arniel, one of his old Washington coaches. When they crossed paths on the ice after the game, the two exchanged a knowing look.
"He came by the bench, gave me the biggest smirk," Arniel said, chuckling.

Asked if he had smacked back at Ovechkin's smirk, Arniel said he never got the chance. Maybe he will in June. And if he does, he won't be smirking, he'll be grinning.
