The Jets are off to a hot 5-1 start, but that didn't stop NHL analyst Sam Fels from Heavy.com from absolutely unleashing and ripping the team apart in every facet.

NHL analyst Sam Fels of Heavy.com wasn't afraid to speak his mind when evaluating the Winnipeg Jets' hot 5-1-0 start, deeming their record deceptive and their underlying performance radically flawed.
Granted, Fels does acknowledge early-season points count just the same as April ones, but he cautions that the Jets' success won't last if they keep relying on hot shooting and great goaltending to cover for systemic weaknesses.
Fels calls the Jets' 15% even-strength shooting percentage, best in the NHL, fool's gold. You don't have to question things if you never miss, says Fels, and he believes the percentages are sure to level back down to reality eventually.
Connor Hellebuyck's .968 save percentage on the penalty kill has been hiding behind the team's defensive breakdowns. Fels describes it as "mice in the engine."
Fels takes direct shots at Jonathan Toews, saying the veteran center has terrible possession numbers but good faceoff numbers.
"The Jets really miss Adam Lowry, as Jonathan Toews is getting mullered out there. Oh, he's winning enough faceoffs to make crusty, Canadian TV analysts weak in the knees, but that's it."

- Sam Fels

He also strikes at Vlad Namestnikov, Nino Niederreiter, and Gustav Nyquist, saying the latter "might be clinically dead."
"Vlad Namestnikov hasn't fared much better in between Nino Neiderreiter and Gustav Nyquist, the latter of whom might be clinically dead, anyway."

- Sam Fels

Sam Fels believes that Josh Morrissey and Dylan DeMelo are the only reliable defensemen for the Jets

Defensively, he wrecks everyone under the Morrissey-DeMelo duo, calling Luke Schenn a "crash test dummy" and saying he is a bigger mess than anyone expected.
Fels concedes that eventually bringing Adam Lowry and Samberg back might shore up things, but reserve player inconsistency and age are still ginormous concerns.
His conclusion is not in dispute, according to him: the Jets' early success is a mirage, one that can vanish in an instant when percentages even themselves out.
