Kevin Bieksa calls out Jets defenseman Logan Stanley for cheap shot on Brady Tkachuk
Former NHL defenseman and current analyst Kevin Bieksa is calling out Jets defenseman Logan Stanley for his cheap shot on Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk in last night's game.
Not only did the Ottawa Senators add to the misery of the Winnipeg Jets this year with a 4-2 win in last night's game in the nation's capital, but there was also a controversial incident near the Senators bench in the second period.
Jets defenseman Logan Stanley got tangled up with Senators captain Brady Tkachuk, and tried to goad him into a fight. Tkachuk did not respond the way that Stanley wanted, and he then sucker punched him.
Tkachuk was given a 10-minute misconduct, but Stanley only got a pair of minor penalties for roughing and removing Tkachuk's helmet.
Later, NHL ananlyst and former defenseman Kevin Bieksa said that it's not something that he would do during his own career:
I like Logan Stanley, I think he's having a great year and I think he has to play on the edge. He clearly wants this fight with Brady Tkachuk, it's a great tradeoff for him, but I think he regrets this. I could never do this in my career, I could never punch a guy who doesn't have his gloves off yet.
Clearly, Brady is not looking, he's got a taped up hand that he's trying to show the bench, which means by rule he can't fight. And most players kind of know before. - Kevin Bieksa

The Senators Were Angered At Logan Stanley For His Sucker Punch On Brady Tkachuk
Tkachuk, who already missed 20 games this year because of a thumb injury, was furious as he was led away by the officials and slammed his stick into the boards before exiting the ice.
His Senators teammates and coaches were equally angry that Stanley wasn't more severely punished, and head coach Travis Green had to use his words carefully carefully as so not to get in trouble with the NHL.
I will probably choose my words wisely. If the refs had to do it again and call it again, they'd probably make a different call. You never like to see a guy get suckered in the face. It's unfortunate, we're lucky he came back. - Travis Green
It will be interesting to see if anyone faces fines in the aftermath of this incident.
