Winnipeg Jets' Jonathan Toews has more than just fan support this season, as his family got emotional seeing him return to the ice after more than two years.

Winnipeg Jets supporters have a lot to cheer about this year, particularly with the return to Winnipeg of hockey great Jonathan Toews. It is a fairy tale for some, but for his cousin, Kurtis Enns from Steinbach, it is personal.
"He's looking pretty good. He's going to only get stronger here as things go on. He's getting his legs together now. He's already dominant in the face-off circle, which I think is pretty good. He's a real playmaker, so he's going to bring a lot to the table, setting guys up with goals and stuff like that. So, yeah, it should be a pretty good season."

Enns records the enthusiasm regarding Toews' return, having created a unique energy in his family and neighborhood. They ensured that they were present at the arena as Toews took to the ice, explaining the experience to be unforgettable.
"We were there for the first game, and they announced him coming on to the ice, and you could definitely tell he was a fan favourite there for sure. It got pretty loud. That was pretty neat to see."

"It was pretty fun. Then after the game, we got to go to his house with some family and friends and stuff like that. It was a pretty good evening."

Witnessing one of Winnipeg's heroes back in the city with the Jets logo was a moment of pride that resonated with all in the arena.

Jonathan Toews recently got the monkey off his back when he recorded his first point as a Winnipeg Jet

On Oct. 13, Toews recorded his first point of the season, which was a milestone Enns feels may be the start of big things.
"I think sometimes in the beginning of the season it takes a little bit of time to get things going," he says. "I think he's trying to figure out their line. I guess too, that hasn't really been official who's out playing with him. They're kind of mixing things up a little bit. So, once they get that all figured out, they get a few games on their belt there, I think they're going to improve going forward here for sure. [Some are] injured too, so once they all come back, it'll make a big difference."

The family has already marked off on their calendar all of the Jets' games and is going to keep a close eye on them each day this season.
To Enns and the entire province of Manitoba, Toews' return is not only about hockey but about pride, home, and family.
"We're all pretty excited about it. For sure, this season's going to be pretty awesome to watch. [At the] end of November, we have to go to Nashville to see a game, so we're looking forward to that too."

"We're not going to miss a game now. We all got the jerseys going on now too and stuff, so yeah, it should be good."

"Hopefully they will go far in the playoffs this year."

With the season having just begun, Winnipeg once again has that feeling of hope, and the fans can't wait to see how far Toews and the Jets will go.
If last year was any indication, the Jets are a team full of skill, have elite goaltending, and now possess the Stanley Cup championship experience that Toews brings.
