Just one game into his NHL career Winnipeg Jets defenseman Elias Salomonsson is already facing a potential fine from the league due to a polarizing rule.

The Winnipeg Jets continue to deal with injuries which has tested the organzation's depth on multiple occasions already.
Tonight that test came in the form of 2022 2nd-round pick Elias Salomonsson making his NHL debut for the Jets.
Ahead of the game, Salomonsson took the ice for his rookie lap and did so without a helmet.
This decision by Salomonssson could now lead to a potential fine taking money out of the young Swede's pocket already.

Elias Salomonsson subject to potential fine after first NHL contest

Unfortunately for Salomonsson the NHL and Gary Bettman put in place a rule regarding going through warmups without a helmet.
The rule states that any player who comes into the league after the 2019-20 season is disallowed from going without a helmet during warmups.
It is mandatory for all players who entered the NHL beginning with the 2019-2020 season or later to wear their helmet during pre-game warm-up. To be clear, all players who entered the League prior to the 2019-2020 season and who are currently playing are exempt from this mandate.

Each player who does not follow this specific rule is subject to a fine upwards of $2500 at the discretion of the NHL.
It remains unclear whether Salomonsson and other rookies who take a lap without a helmet are subject to these fines each time.
However, even if Salomonsson does receive a fine it will likely be picked up by the organization or the veterans in the locker room to offset the cost for the rookie.
As more news comes to light regarding this potential fine for Salomonsson we will pass along the latest details to you.
