Following their embarrassing 5-1 loss to the lowly Buffalo Sabres, Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel discusses what he wants to see from his team moving forward. Nothing went right for the Winnipeg Jets, who have aspirations of winning a Stanley Cup this year, against the lowly Buffalo Sabres, who have the NHL's longest postseason drought at 14 years and counting. The Sabres are the very last ranked team in the Atlantic Division, but that didn't stop them from pounding the Jets 5-1 yesterday in Buffalo. The Jets players reportedly held a players-only meeting to deal with the disappointment of the unexpected loss, and now Jets head coach Scott Arniel is talking about what he must see from his team in the games ahead. He pulled no punches and said they just have to be better after their embarrassing performance against a team they should have easily had no problem with on paper. You're hoping that the response into our next game is a lot better than what it was tonight. We recognize that we just embarrassed ourselves and we're going to have to be a heck of a lot better in the next one. Arniel also pounded the Jets for their mental mistakes. Those are mental mistakes. You get into a game like that and you make it 3-1, you've got to continue to play forward, you can't make risky plays. We fed right into their offence. The Jets can right the ship when they play the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night at Bell Centre.
The Jets Held A Players Only Meeting After Their Blowout Loss To The Sabres
The Jets were forced into holding a players-only meeting after they lost embarrassingly to the Sabres, who would miss the playoffs for a 15th straight year if they began today. Forward Kyle Connor, one of the team leaders, said that everyone has to be better and that was the focus of the meeting. Everybody's got to be a lot better. Keep it at that. And I believe in this group, the leadership that we have, the players in here. It's in this room. It's got to be us to figure it out and turn this thing around, grab that identity and grab a hold of something that makes us tick. The Jets will have their next opportunity to get back on track against the Montreal Canadiens.
