Canucks' Nils Hoglander stunned fans after it was announced by SVT.se that the Vancouver forward made a generous donation to help open a new arena in his hometown.

The 2024-25 season was a difficult one for Nils Höglander, as it was for most on the Vancouver Canucks roster.

Nils Hoglander Scored 16 Fewer Goals This Season Than Last Year

After a career-best 24 goals in the previous season, the Swedish winger found the back of the net a mere eight times last season, a steep drop-off that saw him promising to bounce back.
Nils Höglander didn't waste any time getting to work. A short time after Vancouver's season came to a close, he was already back on the ice, training to be a more effective player when camp opens in some five weeks' time.
Yet, his summer hasn't been entirely focused on self-development, as he's also made a positive impact in his hometown.
As per Swedish media svt.se, Höglander was responsible for getting an ice rink in Mala ready a month ahead of schedule. The rink is close to his heart, too, since Mala IF is where he spent his youth hockey career.
André Önnerlöv, one of the property managers of Mala municipality, has noticed the impact of Höglander's presence.
"We are very pleased that he showed interest and came back to his roots and inspired the younger generation." The article also contains a quote from Höglander, which, when translated, says," It's fun for young people to have ice. I know for myself that it's the best thing there is when you're young."

- Andre Onnerlov

Part of the deal is that the Canucks forward is able to skate on the ice in the mornings before it opens to the general public later in the day.
It cost an estimated 60,000 SEK to open the rink, about $8,600 CAD, and Höglander's presence has been instrumental in getting it ready for the community sooner.
By combining offseason training for the NHL season with giving back in his hometown, Höglander is setting the tone for what he hopes is a bounce-back season in Vancouver.
