This evening in a new interview, New York Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan took a shot at the Vancouver Canucks for poorly handling J.T. Miller. Over the last year a lot of discussion has been had regarding who was at fault for the conflict between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson in Vancouver. The Canucks organization maintains that Miller was the problem within the locker room and have committed to Elias Pettersson for the foreseeable future. While the Canucks have their opinion many fans, media members, and executives have disagreed with them. Today, that has continued as Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan torched the Canucks for not allowing Miller to be himself.
Mike Sullivan Calls Out the Canucks For Forcing J.T. Miller to Change or Be Traded
According to multiple reports, the Canucks gave Miller an ultimatum either go easier on his fellow teammates or waive his no-trade clause to move elsewhere. He decided to accept a trade to the Rangers and now Mike Sullivan has bluntly stated that the Canucks made the wrong decision. First Sullivan acknowledged Miller's past and complimented him for his handling of the situation. When Chris [Drury] and I both talked to him about leadership, and being the captain of the team, that was part of the conversation. I think J.T. has really matured over the course of his career. When you go through challenges like that, I think that's when people learn the most. He then takes a subtle but clear shot at the Canucks organization for not allowing Miller to be himself particularly later in his Vancouver tenure. I think sometimes those guys tend to be misunderstood. He's a fierce competitor. He tends to wear his emotions right on his sleeve. His intentions are in the right place. He wants to win in the worst way, and we love that about him. We don't want that aspect of his personality to change. We want him to be himself.

Loading from Twitter ...

Now, Miller will head back to New York and look to lead the veteran Rangers team back to the success of past years in a quest for the Stanley Cup. Only time will be able to truly tell if the Canucks made the right call letting Miller go and replacing him with Filip Chytil.
