During today's practice, the Edmonton Oilers gave fans what is expected to be an early glimpse of their potential lineup for the 1st regular season game of the year. Even though the Edmonton Oilers may still be feeling some of the hurt that naturally comes with losing twice in a row in the SCF to the same team, they feel energized and ready for the new year to start. There may have been several subtractions from the team that once again skated off the Amerant Bank Arena ice in defeat after having to shake hands with the Florida Panthers, but they're still in a good position to not only return to the playoffs but make another extended run. During today's practice, the team gave fans a glimpse of the potential lineup they could be using for the 1st game of the regular season, set for October 8 against the divisional foe Calgary Flames. Per Oilers analyst Bob Stauffer, the line combinations that the Oilers used during practice read as follows: Draisaitl-McDavid-Frederic Howard-RNH-Mangiapane Henrique-Tomasek-Savoie Janmark-Lazar-Kapanen Samanski-Philp-Hutson Ekholm-Bouchard Nurse-Stecher Kulak-Emberson Dineen-Regula Leppanen Skinner Pickard Tomkins

Loading from Twitter ...

The Oilers have advanced to the SCF twice in a row
As mentioned, the Oilers have been the last team standing in the Western Conference in each of the last 2 years, but they've fallen short both times against the Panthers. There were also multiple subtractions from last year's team, including Evander Kane, Connor Brown, Corey Perry, Viktor Arvidsson, John Klingberg and Jeff Skinner. Even though they were expected to beef up their goaltending, Oilers GM Stan Bowman has instead decided to continue with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard. As the season gets underway all eyes will be on the Oilers to see if this can finally be the group that gets it done and captures the Stanley Cup.
