Top NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman is revealing the real reason why things went sour between the Vancouver Canucks and pending UFA Brock Boeser. The Vancouver Canucks have officially been eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention, a major setback for the organization that was the Pacific Division champion last year. Canucks fans are going to need to start preparing themselves for life without forward Brock Boeser, who isn't likely to return and will be testing the free agency market. Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the real reason why things fell apart between Boeser and the Canucks was a disagreement on term.

Loading from Twitter ...

It was also released that Boeser turned down a 5 year contract offer from the Canucks with an AAV (average annual value) of $8 million.

Loading from Twitter ...

The Canucks wanted nothing less than a 1st round pick in exchange for Boeser
The Canucks attempted to shop Boeser at last month's Trade Deadline, but couldn't find a team willing to meet their asking price. Per Friedman, the Canucks wouldn't accept anything less than a 1st round pick for Boeser - and that the player himself likely wasn't happy with their news conference. It was a really odd media conference, and I'm sure Boeser wasn't happy with some things that were said. But I tried to get to the bottom of it, in what happened. The Canucks indicated nothing less than a 1st rounder for Boeser...they didn't get it, so they decided to hold the player, and we'll see where it goes from there.

Loading from Twitter ...

Boeser has 49 points (25G, 24A) in 73 games this year, most likely his last with the Canucks. With NHL free agency approaching quickly it seems as though Boeser will have a new home next season and the Canucks will have to find a major piece to replace him in their top-six.
