The Edmonton Oilers have been looking for their goaltender of the future for years, and now they may have finally found him in Samuel Jonsson as they have signed their former fifth-round pick to his ELC. For years now, the Edmonton Oilers have been seeking a No. 1 goaltender of the future, and while many believed Jack Campbell would be the one to solve their issues, they're yet to find that consistent force with Stuart Skinner's potential up in the air. Now, the team have inked one of their top prospects in Samuel Jonsson, a former fifth round pick to a three-year Entry Level Contract, with hopes incredibly high for the 21-year old.

Loading from Twitter ...

Standing at 6-foot-5, Jonsson has the mental and physical capability to be a star at the next level, as he was just named goaltender of the year in Sweden's second league on the back of an incredible campaign.

Loading from Twitter ...

At 21-years of age, Jonsson posted a 1.88 GAA and a .922 save percentage through 24 appearances for Bofors IK, and given the immense potential, it appears he has all the makings of a star at the next level.
Can Samuel Jonsson Finally Be The Franchise Goalie The Oilers Need?
In 2024/25, Oilers fans have gotten another look at Calvin Pickard, Stuart Skinner and Olivier Rodrigue, and while they've all played their role well, this is a team that's starved for a superstar in net, hopes are high for Jonsson. It's expected that moving forward, the young goaltender will take up a key role with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL, but if he can take a big step moving forward and perform well, there's no reason why he can't be a key piece of the Oilers NHL club a year from now.
