The Maple Leafs are quite interested in Kiefer Sherwood's services, but as NHL insider Rick Dhaliwal revealed, they simply do not have the necessary assets.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have had trouble maintaining consistency throughout the season.
Currently ranking third from the bottom in the Atlantic Division, they lost to Utah 6-1 on Tuesday and to Vegas 6-5 in overtime on Thursday, putting an end to a four-game winning streak.
While Toronto is still in contention for a spot in the playoffs, they are trying to figure out ways to strengthen their roster, although one source has doubted whether or not they can acquire one of their prime targets.

What Kiefer Sherwood's contract situation is looking like

One of the potential additions that the Leafs have been considering is forward Kiefer Sherwood.
He is in the final year of a two-year, $3 million contract and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
He was recently injured and is day-to-day due to that.
He missed two games so far. In spite of this, Sherwood is getting attention from trade teams.
He currently leads his team with 17 goals and 23 points in 44 games this year, along with 109 shots on goal and 210 hits, which are the second-most in the league.
In the Donnie & Dhali podcast, Rick Dhaliwal pointed out that Sherwood has been with the team even though he is sidelined, unlike Thatcher Demko, who took a break because of an injury.
Dhaliwal also said that Toronto might have a disadvantage in acquiring Sherwood because of a lack of trade assets.
"Maple Leafs like him, but they don't have the assests," Dhaliwal said.

"Look at the assets given up in the last few years, 1st round, 2nd round, they've been going it for every year, so I don't think there's ton of assets there."

Why the Leafs aren't the only Canadian team interested in Kiefer Sherwood

TSN insider Darren Dreger also connected Sherwood to the Ottawa Senators, but said it will depend on their play over the next few games.
Currently, Sherwood's future is still up in the air.
This is mainly dependent on Sherwood's health, as well as the teams willing to make a trade, as the deadline draws near.
