This afternoon NHL analyst Kelly Hrudey is facing backlash online for comments he made regarding the hit that injured Vancouver Canucks forward Filip Chytil. Last night Vancouver Canucks forward Filip Chytil was knocked out of the game due to a dirty hit from Jason Dickinson. The hit sent Chytil head-first into the boards and caused concern for another concussion for a player who already has a dark history with concussions. On the play, Dickinson was not penalized and he did not face any supplemental discipline from the league. After the game, the Hockey Night in Canada crew discussed the hit and this is where analyst Kelly Hrudey sparked controversy.
Kelly Hrudey Facing Backlash For Comments About Filip Chytil Injury
During a panel last night on Hockey Night in Canada the hit by Jason Dickinson was discussed. When it was Kelly Hrudey's turn to give input he defended Dickinson for not only his hit on Chytil but also a prior questionable hit on Macklin Celebrini. I know it has an ugly look to it hitting Celebrini like that and hitting Chytil. But he had 22 goals last season he's at 7 this year. He wants the organization that he hates losing. That I'm not accepting losing and I care. Maybe he crossed the line a little bit. In the hours after he made these insensitive comments fans flooded to social media to call out Hrudey for such a ridiculous take given the circumstances.

Chytil ended up leaving the game due to this hit from Dickinson and to this point there has been no update from the Vancouver Canucks on his status. Over the next couple of days all eyes will be on Hrudey to see if he apologizes for the insensitive remarks or continues to double down on his take.
