New report leaks failed trade details between Capitals and Canucks involving Quinn Hughes
Per a new report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, the Washington Capitals were a team that had allegedly made a pitch to the Vancouver Canucks to try and acquire Quinn Hughes.
The Minnesota Wild stunned fans and analysts alike when they acquired Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks earlier this month.
In return for Hughes, the Wild sent forwards Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, defenseman Zeev Buium, and a 2026 first round pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft to the Canucks.
Per a new report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, one of the teams that inquired with the Canucks about acquiring Hughes was the Washington Capitals, though they were allegedly reluctant to trade forward Ryan Leonard as part of a package to Vancouver in return.
David Pagnotta: The Capitals, another team that tried to get into the Quinn Hughes race; I don't blame them for not wanting to trade Ryan Leonard, but there are other pieces there that I think they're willing to move if the right pieces come into play - DFO Rundown (12/22)
Since being traded to the Wild, Hughes has four points (1G, 3A) in six games played.
Quinn Hughes Had Been Linked To At Least Two Teams In The Eastern Conference Before Being Traded To The Wild
Hughes being traded to the Wild caught many fans and analysts off guard, considering the two Eastern Conference teams that he was heavily linked to.
Both the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings were the clubs Hughes was most linked to. Hughes' brothers, Jack and Luke, both play for the Devils. He also played in the metro-Detroit suburb of Ann Arbor for the NCAA's University of Michigan, and his parents live in the area.
Either destination seemed the most likely for Hughes, who instead is now with the Minnesota Wild.
