Jim Rutherford Makes A Concerning Statement About Quinn Hughes After Firing Rick Tocchet
This afternoon, after firing head coach Rick Tocchet, President of Hockey Ops Jim Rutherford made a concerning statement about how Quinn Hughes took the news.
With Tocchet now on the market, Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin spoke to the media and were asked about the situation.
While discussing how the decision was made, Rutherford was asked if Quinn Hughes had input on the decision or if he was aware that the decision was made.
Rutherford's response has raised some red flags about communication and public relations in the Canucks organization.
Jim Rutherford Causes Panic Once Again With Comments On Quinn Hughes
When asked about Hughes' reaction to the firing of Tocchet Rutherford gave a concerning answer saying he had not spoken to the Canucks captain.
He further elaborated and said that he called Hughes, but the call went unanswered.
In isolation that answer should not concern Canucks fans but this is the second strange answer that Rutherford has given in relation to Hughes.
Earlier this month Rutherford was under fire for insinuating that Hughes is not committed to the Canucks long-term because he wants to play with his brothers in New Jersey.
Combine these factors with the Canucks less than stellar resume of their handling of star players and an unsettling pattern forms.
Hughes who reportedly loved being coached by Tocchet needs to be on board with the Canucks future for this core group to work.
Hopefully, this situation will amount to nothing and Hughes will be instrumental to the Canucks success next season.
