Former NHL goalie Cory Schneider is criticizing his former team, the last place Vancouver Canucks, for their lack of communication on their plans for their rebuild.
Nothing has gone right for the Vancouver Canucks this year, as they are now dead last in the NHL and are staring a painful rebuilding process right in the face.
They've already made two big trades this year, the first of which was trading away captain and former Norris Trophy winner Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild.
Former Canucks goalie Cory Schneider, who was seen at one point as the successor to Roberto Luongo, expressed his disappointment in the current state of the team that gave him his start in the NHL.
It's tough, obviously it's been a while since I've been there but it was my first organization, the team that drafted me. I still have close ties with a lot of people from that era, so I always keep an eye on them on the West Coast. It's disappointing, it's frustrating to see, because they've had good pieces and talent. You see all the guys who have gone out the door in the last few years.....it just seems like they can't quiet down the noise. - Cory Schneider
He then said it would be nice to have a clearer picture of exactly what direction that the team is going in.
Not that they owe me anything, but it would be nice to hear what the plan is and who the guys are going forward that they want to build around and continue to have the next generation of the Cnaucks, but for now, it's bleak times unfortunately, for the city. - Cory Schneider
Cory Schneider Was Once Seen As The Heir Apparent To Roberto Luongo
The Canucks had themselves a legitimate starting goalie in Roberto Luongo that took them to within a win of the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2011 when he was still regarded as one of the NHL's best goalies.
But he was eventually supplanted in net by Schneider, who seemed like his obvious replacement. But because of Luongo's hefty contract, he wasn't able to be moved, and Schneider was eventually traded to the New Jersey Devils.
Schneider won 171 NHL games during his career with the Canucks, Devils, and New York Islanders.
