Heading into the NHL preseason insider Elliotte Friedman has provided a new update on the Canucks search for a second-line center to go along with Elias Pettersson. The Vancouver Canucks second-line center spot has been a topic of conversation all summer long. Reports indicated that the team would like to acquire someone to push Filip Chytil for the spot and be insurance in case the often injured talented center once again goes down. Over the last several weeks, reports he quieted down regarding the Canucks pursuit of a center but, today that has changed as Elliotte Friedman has a new update on the Canucks plans.
Elliotte Friedman Provides An Update On The Canucks Search For A Second-Line Center
During a recent interview with Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal, Friedman spoke about Vancouver's pursuit of a second-line center and revealed that the trade market is incredibly slow right now. Due to the new rules put in place for salary retention and long-term injured reserve trades have been hard to come by and teams are less willing to part with good players. As a result, Friedman says that Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford would have to get very creative to add a center of that caliber before the season begins.

Loading from Twitter ...

If the Canucks go with an internal solution, Filip Chytil will likely get the first opportunity to grab the second-line spot. If Chytil struggles or gets injured then Aatu Raty or Nils Aman would likely get the next opportunity. Hopefully, Chytil can step up and fill the role at least in the interim while Allvin and Rutherford try to work their magic for a more permanent solution.
