David Tomasek was signed by the Oilers this off-season, and now the 29-year old has introduced himself to fans by revealing what he can bring to this team.

After 12 seasons playing in Europe, most recently for Farjestad BK in the SHL, undrafted centre David Tomasek officially signed in the NHL this off-season, inking a deal with the back-to-back Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers.
The 29-year old veteran was a late bloomer, but now, given the Oilers need for depth down the middle, he may be given the perfect opportunity to compete for a roster spot with this team in 2025/26.
When discussing why he signed with the Edmonton Oilers Tomasek credited GM Stan Bowman for convincing him that this was the right opportunity to have his first shot at playing in the NHL.
I would say that it was maybe the personal contact with Stan Bowman and the team, we've been in touch for some time now, not just last year. They also came down to Sweden and wanted to introduce themselves, and we had a good chat about it. And I liked the idea about the team having a chance to skate with Leon and Connor, also is a great motivation to be around these best players, I would say, in the league.

After discussing why he chose Edmonton Tomasek then moved on to what he believes he can provide the Oilers to finally capture a Stanley Cup.

Tomasek Opens Up On His Potential Role With The Oilers

In a discussion with Jason Gregor, Tomasek opened up on his versatility and what he will bring to the Oilers, noting that he can thrive in either a defensive role or an offensive one, depending on what the team needs.
It kind of depends on what role you're going to get, but so far in Europe, I was able to be a point producer, having some skill and time on the power play. I see the ice well and I can make some plays. I also liked to use my size a little bit to create time and make plays.

But here, I think it really depends on how the next weeks are going to be and what role I'm going to get or I'm able to fight for. When I was put in a role where I had to defend, I could do it and when I was in the top two-line role, I could produce. My style depends on what role I'm given.
Unfortunately for Tomasek, the top three centre roles in Edmonton are likely taken by stars, but if he can find his way into the bottom six, whether on the wing or down the middle, he has proven in recent years at a high level that he can be a productive player.
Only time will tell whether or not Tomasek can be productive for the Oilers in the NHL, but given what a cheap signing he was, even if he just represents depth for this team, it was a good move for Stan Bowman to make.
