Ahead of the 2025-26 season Connor McDavid spoke to Mark Spector of Sportsnet and revealed the key to unlocking the next level of success for the Oilers. The Edmonton Oilers are coming off of their second straight Stanley Cup Finals appearance but both ended in heartbreak losses to the Florida Panthers. Despite having two of the premier players in the NHL Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl the Oilers have repeatedly failed to play their best at the right times. Throughout the offseason analysts have been trying to determine what the Oilers are missing that has led to repeated heartbreak. Today, McDavid spoke to Sportsnet's Mark Spector about what the team has been missing and how they plan to improve going forward.
Connor McDavid Ready To Set The Tone For A Brand New Culture In Edmonton
In the interview with Mark Spector, McDavid spoke about creating a culture and tone so strong that regardless of the opponent the Oilers will refuse to be stopped. We're already pretty good at it, but we've got to get to a level that nobody can touch. Set a culture and a tone for this year that's a championship culture. That championship mindset.

Loading from Twitter ...

Of course, the Oilers already have a great culture that has led them to two Stanley Cup Finals appearances but if they can find another level of consistency they could become truly unstoppable. Once training camp begins it will be up to McDavid and the rest of the leadership group along with head coach Kris Knoblauch to truly establish to culture they are hoping to see through every member of the organization.
