Filip Chytil was a huge pickup for the Canucks in a deal with the Rangers last season, and now Patrik Allvin expressed confidence he can take over the 2C role. The Vancouver Canucks made some big moves last season, but none were bigger than the J.T. Miller trade, one that was forced upon them given the public feud he had with superstar Elias Pettersson. Now, the team head into the 2025/26 campaign with question marks over their 2C role, and after stabilizing both their goaltending and the wing spot, they're potentially ready to contend if they can find that consistent 2C.
Can Filip Chytil take over that role next season?
This was a question posed to General Manager Patrik Allvin recently, and in his answer, he expressed that he believes in Filip Chytil, the player that was arguably the key piece in the return for Miller from New York. As you've seen this summer, it's fairly quiet and not a lot of transactions. This gives us flexibility if something comes along that makes us believe our team gets better. There was a reason why he was drafted in the first round (No. 21 by the Rangers in the 2017 NHL Draft) and was started to play in the National Hockey League really early. Allvin said, He's still a good player. We still believe it. I think he recognizes that, and he was very happy and excited to be part of the Canucks and coming into Vancouver and getting to know the city and his teammates and all that, so I think he will come in with more confidence.

Loading from Twitter ...

In terms of potential, there are few Canucks with a higher ceiling than Chytil, but given the injury, and especially concussion issues he's dealt with in recent times, there are question marks over his ability to fill that role. Between New York and Vancouver in 2024/25, Chytil tallied 13 goals and 26 points in 56 games played, but if this team is to take a step forward, he needs to be a great 2C, and if he stays healthy, there's genuine optimism that he can do just that.
