Canucks Provide Update on First-Round Pick Braeden Cootes After Injury Suffered During Prospect Scrimmage
Last night, Vancouver Canucks 2025 first-round pick Braeden Cootes suffered an injury and now an update has been given on his condition.
The Vancouver Canucks organization kicked off their season this weekend during a prospect scrimmage against the Seattle Kraken.
The game meant to highlight up and coming talents for both teams quickly turned to a nightmare scenario for the Canucks as their most recent first-round pick Braeden Cootes left the game with an injury.
At the time of the injury, Cootes overall status and the severity of the injury was unknown.
After the game, Abbotsford Canucks head coach Manny Malhotra who is coach for these prospect games gave an update.

In his post game press conference Malhotra was asked for an update regarding Cootes injury and long-term outlook.
According to Malhotra, Cootes was removed from the game for precautionary reasons but will be re-evaluated today to determine when he will re-enter the lineup.
Overall, it seems like Cootes avoided the worst case scenario and shouldn't be impacted heading into the regular season.
In his draft year, Cootes tallied 63 points in 60 games in the WHL leading him to be selected 15th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Cootes will likely head back to the WHL for this season to play with the Seattle Thunderbirds before challenging for an NHL roster spot the following season.
As more reports surface regarding Cootes' injury and status going forward we will provide continuous updates.
