Zach Hyman revealed his true feelings on what the city of Edmonton and Oilers fans mean to him, and he has nothing but positive things to say, despite one drawback.

Zach Hyman's 2021 free agent signing with the Edmonton Oilers was a great one, and he's playing well on the ice and doing great things off the ice.
When he signed with the team initially for seven years, few thought he would be as impactful. While he was known as a hard forechecker with scoring capabilities, his then-career best of 41 points was not thought to be the standard.
He has surpassed that mark every year since and even hit the rare 50-goal mark last season.

Hyman appreciates the pace of life in Edmonton over that of Toronto

Off the ice, life in Edmonton has been no less rewarding for Hyman and his family. On the 'What Chaos!' podcast, he only spoke well of the city, revealing his true, raw, and brutally honest feelings, describing it as a great place to live.
"Toronto is a bigger city, so you don't have that smaller city feel [that Edmonton has]," Hyman said. "You go around here and see a lot of the same people, I go to the same coffee shop. My kids go to school so I see a lot of the same people and have cool interactions with people every day.

"I've felt nothing but support here in the city and love. I felt like that in Toronto as well, but it's amplified here. I feel very loved here, and it's a special feeling."
That love is mutual, as his relentless, grinder mentality is well-suited to Edmonton's working-class mindset.

The one drawback: the exaggeration of some fans based on how the team plays

Hyman also appreciates the fervor of Oilers fans. While the highs and lows of a year can be exaggerated, he understands their devotion and embraces it.
"I love being in a Canadian market; I love being in a place where people love hockey," Hyman said. "They just want to see their team succeed, and they live and die by how you're doing, and I think that's where you get those emotional swings. One day, the fanbase thinks you're winning a cup; the next day, they don't think you're making the playoffs.

"I'm a Buffalo Bills fan, I can relate. When I'm watching the Bills, one week they look amazing and the next week I'm like 'Oh boy, they're not making the playoffs' and that's what sports does."

Off the ice, Hyman is easy to root for. He's a children's book author, e-sports franchise owner, and now owner of the OHL's Brantford Bulldogs.
With how much Edmonton has welcomed him, it's obvious that leaving Toronto was the best decision for him and his family.
