Beloved sports writer Bruce McCurdy, who covered the Edmonton Oilers, working for the Edmonton Journal, has tragically passed away after a medical emergency. Veteran sports writer Bruce McCurdy has died. McCurdy co-hosted 'Cult of Hockey' with David Staples, an Oilers beat reporting colleague, and contributed regularly to the 'Edmonton Journal', where he informed a loyal following about game-day news and analysis on X. The tragic news was made by his son, Kevin, who revealed that Bruce died after being found unresponsive following a medical emergency. This will be the hardest thing I've ever had to write. Last night, shortly after the hockey game and this tweet was written, my father, Bruce McCurdy, experienced a medical emergency and became unresponsive. My family called 911 and resuscitation efforts were performed to the maximum extent possible, and he was transported to hospital. Unfortunately despite the valiant efforts of St. Albert Fire & Rescue and the medical professionals at Sturgeon Hospital, my father passed away. To say that we are devastated is an extreme understatement and we ask for privacy as we deal with the grieving process. We understand that Bruce touch so many lives in various communities and we will do our best to advise what our next steps are. Thank you for your understanding on behalf of myself and the rest of the McCurdy family. I love you Dad, and I miss you more than words could ever tell you. - Kevin McCurdy

A seasoned sportswriter, Bruce had been with the 'Edmonton Journal' since 2010 and also contributed to SB Nation Oilers. He was also very active in the local community in non-athletic activities, having delivered over 30 years of service to the 'Edmonton Telus World of Science', where he also had an interest in astronomy. May he rest in peace, and we extend our deepest condolences to all of Bruce's friends and dearest family.
