Top NHL analyst Ray Ferraro is not happy with the way Stan Bowman constructed the Oilers roster since he's taken over, saying the team is far too small.

NHL analyst Ray Ferraro shared his thoughts on the Edmonton Oilers' questionable roster construction on the 'Ray & Dregs' podcast.
Ferraro provided his comments after Dallas Stars winger collided with Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner, knocking Skinner out of the game and out for their matchup against Seattle with a neck/head injury.
"The puck's behind the net. Rantanen is going to it. I don't think he's trying to hit Skinner at all. However, he does. Skinner clearly was shaken up and hopefully he's all right. But I really don't see intent in the play. I see a guy going to after the puck."

Host Darren Dreger discussed the response of veteran forward Corey Perry, saying that Perry took responsibility for not watching the play and not pursuing Rantanen.
Dreger also said that Oilers players would talk amongst themselves about the lack of a response from the team.
Ferraro admitted it's not always easy to pick up head shots such as the Rantanen one during the intensity of the play, but stated that quite a few Oilers were in proximity when Skinner went down.

Ferraro doesn't like how the Oilers signed only small players last offseason

He then wondered if Edmonton's management thought about their roster composition a lot in the offseason, especially after acquiring smaller wingers such as Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson.
"Maybe they didn't think this through with roster construction enough. Maybe you do need to be heftier. Maybe you do need to be a little bigger. And I would say that's a pretty fair view of their team.

"I mean, to go back, again, you go back to July 1st, and they signed Skinner and Arvidsson, who are both 5'9», and you could have addressed that with bigger people if you thought down the road this could be a concern. That also led into the Broberg/Holloway thing. That's something different. But your roster construction basically tells you what kind of team you've got, and what you're able to do."

- Ray Ferraro

Ferraro opined that if the Oilers get more physically rugged in protecting their goalies, they can at least learn a good lesson from their defeat to Dallas.
