Today Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman addressed the media and confirmed the main reason he decided to not replace Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard. All summer long the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to a shake up in the net. First, the Oilers were connected to former Vancouver Canucks goalie Arturs Silovs. He was eventually traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins instead.

Loading from Twitter ...

Once Silovs was off of the market the media then pivoted to Boston Bruins promising goaltender Michael DiPietro as an option to replace Calvin Pickard as the Oilers backup. However, the Oilers have yet to make a move staying committed to Pickard and Skinner and this evening Stan Bowman confirmed why sticking with that duo remains the plan going forward.
Stan Bowman Commits To Goaltending Duo Shutting Down All Rumors Of Change
In a new interview, Bowman was asked what the plan is for the upcoming season when it comes to goaltending. Bowman confirmed that as of now, the Oilers will stick with Pickard and Skinner heading into the season. That's the way it looks right now. Never say never, we looked at a lot of different options, and I think there were a lot of good things we did last year. Bowman indicated that the idea of changing the tandem was explored but there were no options available that were a clear improvement over their current situation. To change something just to change it, I don't know that I've ever been a big fan of that. You have to be confident that the change you're making is an improvement. When we looked around at the options, there was nothing that made sense. With Bowman's statement it is now clear that unless something drastically changes the Oilers are comfortable running it back with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard for the 2025-26 season. As the season gets underway only time will be able to determine if this is the right move from Stan Bowman and the Oilers.
